Warehouse settings

Warehouse settings control rules that apply only to the warehouse shown in the page title. If the company has multiple warehouses, each warehouse can have its own picking limits, its own label prefixes, and its own invoice printing rule.

These settings are different from WMS settings. WMS settings are general account settings. The settings on this page apply only to the selected warehouse.

SettingDefault for new warehousesWhat it controls
Picking limit - single-product orders20Maximum number of units Putaway WMS tries to include in an automatic list for single-product orders.
Picking limit - multi-product orders20Maximum number of units Putaway WMS tries to include in an automatic list for multi-product orders.
Single picking list threshold50Multi-product orders above this threshold are treated as separate lists instead of being mixed with other orders.
Replenish extra units0Extra units added on top of the calculated shortfall when a replenishment list is proposed.
Invoice auto-print modeAll ordersWhen the invoice is sent automatically to the invoice printer during packing.
Aisle prefixALetter used in storage location codes for the aisle.
Bay prefixBLetter used in storage location codes for the bay.
Level prefixLLetter used in storage location codes for the level.
Bin prefixBLetter used for the final storage location position.
Receiving prefix 1 / 2R / ZFirst two segments in receiving location codes.
Picking cart prefix 1 / 2P / CFirst two segments in picking cart codes.
Quarantine zone prefixQUARANTINEPrefix added to quarantine zones created later.
Returns prefixRETURNSPrefix used for returns locations.

Numeric values must be whole numbers. Picking limits and the single-list threshold must be at least 1. Replenish extra units can be 0 or more.

Picking limits are used when you start Picking without manually entering a specific order. Putaway WMS looks at orders ready for picking in order and tries to build a list that fits within the warehouse limit.

For single-product orders, the single limit is used. For multi-product orders, the multi limit is used.

Putaway WMS does not split an order just to fill a list. If an order has more units than the remaining list capacity, that order is left for a later list.

For multi picking, Single picking list threshold separates large orders. If a multi-product order has more units than the threshold, Putaway WMS prepares it alone in a dedicated list when its turn comes. If the current list already contains smaller orders, the large order is not added on top of them.

This setting is used for replenishment lists. Putaway WMS looks at open orders, calculates how many units are missing from locations available for picking, and adds the extra units configured here.

Example:

You have 5 orders that need the same product, and the picking locations no longer have available units for that product. In Warehouse settings, Replenish extra units is set to 3.

Putaway WMS calculates:

5 units needed for orders + 3 extra units = 8 units to replenish

In this case, the replenishment list proposes moving 8 units to a picking location, if enough units are available in the locations used for replenishment.

Putaway WMS does not create stock through this setting. If only 6 units are available, the list proposes at most 6, even if the setting brings the calculation to 8.

The setting is useful when you want to bring slightly more product into the picking area so you do not need to replenish again immediately after the next orders.

This setting applies in Packing, after all products for an order have been packed.

The options are:

OptionBehavior
DisabledThe invoice is not sent automatically to the printer. The operator can print it manually from the packing screen if it is available.
All ordersPutaway WMS tries to print the invoice for every packed order.
Orders without billing email addressPutaway WMS tries to print the invoice only for orders that do not have a billing email address.

Automatic printing happens only when the packing station has access to the selected invoice printer. If the printer is not available or has not been selected, the invoice is not printed automatically.

Putaway WMS does not automatically reprint an invoice that has already been printed at least once. Reprinting is done manually and requires confirmation.

Storage prefixes control location codes in storage zones and in quarantine zones built with aisles, bays, levels, and bins.

The usual format is:

ZONE-A01-B01-L01-B01

In this example:

  • ZONE is the zone name;
  • A01 uses the aisle prefix;
  • B01 uses the bay prefix;
  • L01 uses the level prefix;
  • the final B01 uses the bin prefix.

For these four prefixes, you can choose letters from A to Z. After at least one storage location exists in the warehouse, the fields are locked.

Receiving, Picking Cart, And Returns Prefixes

Section titled “Receiving, Picking Cart, And Returns Prefixes”

Special locations do not use the full zone, aisle, bay, and level format.

Location typeFormatStandard example
ReceivingPREFIX1-PREFIX2-NUMBERR-Z-1
Picking cartPREFIX1-PREFIX2-NUMBERP-C-1
ReturnsPREFIX-NUMBERRETURNS-1

Receiving and picking cart prefixes are selected from letters A-Z. The returns prefix is entered as text and saved in uppercase.

Set these prefixes before creating the related locations. After receiving locations, picking carts, or returns locations exist, the related fields are locked.

The quarantine prefix is applied to quarantine zone names created later.

If the prefix is QUARANTINE and you create the zone DAMAGED, the zone is saved as:

QUARANTINE-DAMAGED

Locations created in that zone then use the storage format, for example:

QUARANTINE-DAMAGED-A01-B01-L01-B01

The quarantine prefix is saved in uppercase. After at least one quarantine zone exists, the field is locked.

PrefixCan still be changed when…
Aisle, bay, level, binNo storage locations exist.
Receiving 1 / 2No receiving locations exist.
Picking cart 1 / 2No picking carts exist.
ReturnsNo returns locations exist.
Quarantine zoneNo quarantine zones exist.

If a field is locked, Putaway WMS keeps the existing codes and does not allow changing the prefix from the page. This prevents already printed labels from no longer matching the new codes.

After making changes, press Save.

If a value is invalid or a locked prefix is changed, saving is refused and settings are not partially applied. Correct the field indicated by the message and save again.

After saving, settings apply to future operations. Codes for locations that already exist are not rewritten automatically.

  1. Select the correct warehouse.
  2. Configure prefixes before creating locations.
  3. Create receiving, storage, quarantine, returns, and picking cart locations.
  4. Adjust picking limits after observing how the team actually works.
  5. Configure automatic invoice printing only after the packing station has the printer ready.
  6. Save and test a new picking list, receiving location, picking cart, and packing order.

Do not use this page for:

  • changing currency, date format, or time format;
  • configuring integrations;
  • managing users or permissions;
  • changing stock quantities;
  • renaming codes for locations that already exist;
  • correcting a receiving, picking, or packing flow that was started incorrectly.
